YO! Success Spotlight: Kayla’s Journey to a Brighter Future
At YO Baltimore, we believe every student’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible with perseverance, support, and purpose. Today, we’re proud to share Kayla’s inspiring journey as one of our GED graduates.
““I wanted it for myself.””
That’s how Kayla described her decision to return to school and pursue her GED. It wasn’t about anyone else—it was a personal goal, rooted in self-belief and determination.
From the beginning, Kayla found a strong support system in YO Baltimore.
“The staff has been very supportive, patient… [at YO!} I found one of the best teachers. They were so patient.”
She also credited her case workers for always being available.
“They always called, supported, and have been there for me when I needed them.”
While earning her GED, Kayla also took part in the Vehicles for Change auto training program, which helped cover the cost of her permit. Looking ahead, she’s eager to dive into the trades—either HVAC or construction.
“I want to refine my trade and master it—then move away from Baltimore into a new environment.”
When asked to reflect on her accomplishments and future goals, Kayla didn’t hesitate:
“I am very proud of myself to get the opportunity to further my aspirations in trade.”
Kayla’s story is just one of many that show how determination and support can lead to real, lasting change. We’re honored to be part of her journey—and we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next.
