The 901 N. Milton Building Open and Ready to Serve the Community!
On June 26, 2008 HEBCAC and Moveable Feast hosted an Open House to celebrate the completion of the new Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Community Center at 901 N Milton Avenue. In her keynote remarks, Mayor Sheila Dixon congratulated the community and HEBCAC for the hard work in making the project a reality. She also thanked The Harry & Jeannette Weinberg Foundation and other local funders for their generous financial support. The facility, formally a garment factory, sat vacant for years before the community, HEBCAC and other organizations pooled their resources to renovate the building. It took more than two years and cost $10 million to complete the historic rehabilitation project. With 55,000 square foot, the new Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Community Center will house a number of non-profits as well as a community center that will provide after-school activities and other programs for the residents of the Madison East End neighborhoods.
ReBoot Computer Store and Business Store Opens on Monument Street
In late February, HEBCAC launched the organization's first social enterprise--ReBoot Computer Store at 2341 E Monument Street. The ReBoot Computer Store retails pre-owned computers that have been refurbished at the East Baltimore Technology Resource Center and provides technical assistance and on-site repairs. Our business services include mail box rentals, copy and fax services, and mailing services. HEBCAC renovated the retail space for the store to compliment the Main Street program efforts to revitalize the retail district and young adults from the Youth Opportunities program are employed as sales associates.
